There are hundreds of virtual office providers in the UK. Many are legitimate business centres. Some are PO Box redirects. A few will disappear after taking your money. Here is a 7-point checklist to avoid the bad ones.
The 7-Point Checklist
1. Is It a Real Building?
Search the address on Google Maps and Street View. Is there a real building with a sign, a reception area, and people working there? If it is a residential house or an anonymous mailbox centre, avoid it.
2. How Long Has It Been Operating?
An address that has been in commercial use for 10+ years carries more weight than one registered last month. a Leeds provider has been operating since 2009.
3. What Is the Mail Turnaround?
How quickly is mail forwarded or scanned? Same day? Next day? Weekly? If they cannot tell you, that is a red flag.
4. Are There Hidden Fees?
Some providers charge per mail item, per scan, per phone call. Ask for the total monthly cost including all anticipated usage.
5. What Is the Contract?
Monthly rolling is best. Avoid 12-month commitments — if the service is poor, you want to be able to leave.
6. Do Banks Accept It?
Ask the provider if they can provide a tenancy confirmation letter. See our bank acceptance guide.
7. Can You Meet Clients There?
A virtual office with meeting room access gives you somewhere real to bring clients. This adds credibility and practicality.
