Companies House records two types of address for directors: the registered office (for the company) and the service address (for the individual director). They serve different purposes and you should understand both.
Registered Office
The company's official address. All statutory mail goes here. It appears on the company record. See our complete registered office guide.
Service Address
A director's contact address. It appears on the director's appointment record. Before 2009, directors had to disclose their home address publicly. The service address replaced this requirement — you can now use any address (including the registered office) as your service address, keeping your home private.
Can They Be the Same?
Yes. Most small company directors use the registered office as their service address. At many Leeds providers, your virtual office address works for both. This keeps your filing clean and your home address completely off the public register.
